UAE successfully complete a great comeback and win over Canada in T20 World Cup clash!
Fifty-year-olds Aryansh Sharma and Sohaib Khan rescued the UAE from a tough chase, allowing them to beat Canada by five wickets in the T20 World Cup on Friday.
Chasing 151 runs, the UAE looked to be struggling with a score of 66-4 in the 13th over.
But Sharma, who made 74 not out, and Sohaib (51) combined for 84 runs, helping the team reach the target with two balls to spare in New Delhi.
Sharma played the anchor, while Sohaib battled the opposition attack with four fours and four sixes, denying Canada a victory and giving the UAE their first win in two Group D matches.
Sohaib reached 50 off 28 balls but fell in the final over, leaving Muhammad Arfan to score the winner and spark jubilant celebrations.
Fast bowler Junaid Siddique set up the win with 5-35 in his four overs, restricting Canada to 150-7, and was named player of the match.
“In the first innings, we thought they could get to 160 or 170,” Siddique said.
“We bowled really well in the last overs and knew 150 was a reachable total.”
Canadian bowler Saad Bin Zafar impressed with 3-14 in his four overs, putting the opposing batsmen in a tough spot.
But Sharma and Sohaib turned the tables, allowing the UAE to leapfrog into third place in the group, ahead of winless Afghanistan.
New Zealand and South Africa lead the group with two wins from two.
They will face each other on Saturday in Ahmedabad, where the winner will be the first to secure a place in the Super Eight.
