Rashid Khan becomes first bowler to take 700 T20 wickets

DELHI: Afghan spin wizard Rashid Khan made history on Monday when he became the first bowler to score 700 T20 wickets as his team faced the United Arab Emirates in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The 27-year-old Rashid achieved this milestone in a unique fashion when UAE bottom batsman Muhammad Arfan was hit by a wicket while attempting a reverse sweep, which completely backfired in the 15th over.

Rashid had previously surpassed former West India all-rounder Dwayne Bravo’s 631 wickets record in February 2025.

Currently, Sunil Narine and Imran Tahir are the other active cricketers behind Rashid Khan on the all-time wicket-scoring list.

Rashid Khan (AFG) – 518 matches, 700 wickets

Dwayne Bravo (WI) – 582 matches, 631 wickets

Sunil Narine (WI) –  583 matches, 613 wickets

Overall, he has 191 wickets in 114 T20Is and is also closing on the record of becoming the first bowler to reach 200 wickets.
